Formation anisotropic constants from sonic data acquired while drilling

چکیده

Formation anisotropic constants play an important role in the determination of formation stresses, fractures, lithology, and mechanical properties. These characteristics provide critical inputs to wellbore stability during drilling optimal completion designs hydrocarbon bearing reservoirs. However, there are no available techniques for estimation a sub-set using Logging-While-Drilling (LWD) sonic data. Inversion LWD-sonic data is rather challenging because strong coupling between collar-flexural formation-flexural modes propagating along borehole. The influence collar flexural on significantly different fast slow formations. Consequently, frequency dependent sensitivities measured dispersions changes as well. DPCM Compression for Real-Time Logging While Drilling Data

Logging while drilling (LWD) is a drilling technique which obtains and transmits the logging data during oil/gas drilling operations. Because of the limited available transmission bandwidth of mud channel, how to improve the bandwidth utilization becomes a critical problem in LWD research. In this paper, by discussing the information entropy of real logging data, we find that the original encod...

Thermal Response Test While Drilling

Knowledge of the ground thermal conductivity is of importance when designing borehole heat exchanger (BHE) systems. As thermal conductivity for any specific rock type varies due to its mineral content, porosity, pore fluid and anisotropy, it is preferable determined in-situ. Choudhary (1976) suggested a method for determining the thermal conductivity which analysed the heat transfer during the ...

Estimation of the Formation Temperature from the Inlet and Outlet Mud Temperatures While Drilling Geothermal Formations

Formation temperature is an important parameter in geothermal drilling since it affects drilling fluid, operations and equipment, through mud temperatures. In this study formation temperatures of the five geothermal wells in Germencik-Omerbeyli field were estimated by using mud inlet and outlet temperatures obtained during drilling. GTEMP wellbore thermal simulation model was used to estimate t...

Results of Laboratory Experiments to Simulate the Downhole Environment of Formation Testing While Drilling

A laboratory-based experimental study was conducted to more completely understand the fundamentals of pressure transients produced by Formation Testing While Drilling (FTWD) equipment. These tools can be run in open hole, positioned at a desired level, and actuated to measure reservoir pressure and flow capacity while in a dynamic drilling environment. Any number of pressure measurements can be...

Sonic Logging in Deviated Boreholes of an Anisotropic Formation: Laboratory Study

Deepwater field development requires drilling of deviated or horizontal wells. Most formations encountered can be highly anisotropic and Pand S-wave velocities vary with propagation directions. Sonic logs acquired in these wells need to be corrected before they can be applied in formation evaluation and seismic applications. In this study, we make use of a laboratory model made of an approximat...
